Professor Dix has maintained a vibrant practice in the area of environmental protection and health for more than 20 years. It was his environmental practice that originally led him into both transportation and subsurface infrastructure specialization.

He has played a key role internationally in the development of air quality management design and performance guidelines for road tunnels in urban areas – being the chairman of the research group on this subject for PIARC  (World Road Association) and still maintaining briefs on energy consumption, low energy lighting, air cleaning technologies and ground water management for tunnels.

In addition Dix advises key industrial clients on sensitive environmental issues arising from Land, Water, Air and Ocean contamination.

Professor Dix’s practice in this area intentionally of a very low profile given the sensitivity of such matters
politically.
