Professor Dix is widely regarded as an expert on Fire and Life Safety. He advises robustly on projects as diverse as the Safety of rolling stock, road tunnels, entire metro systems, on disasters and even tunnels under construction.
He is the author of technical papers on the subject as well as sitting on the standards bodies for both road and rail tunnel fire and life safety in the US and Europe.

In 2011 he was awarded the “Allen Neyland” award for his contribution to international tunneling.
